UCLA BATTLEBOTS: MO INCARNATE

About

  • A WALL-E inspired 1 lb robot designed to survive and win against other robots in arena combat.

  • Biggest constraints were mass and the part manufacturing ability of the UCLA MakerSpace: PLA 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Soldering Stations, and a single Machined Part.

Structural FEA to Meet Design Goals

  • Produced 3D CAD model through SolidWorks with 90% of the parts Designed For Assembly

  • Employed Finite Element Analysis tools to identify weak points and areas for mass reduction under various loading conditions

  • Modifications after FEA resulted in a

    35% reduction in concentrated stress under loading conditions, while reducing chassis mass by 25%
